  • Volunteer terms and conditions

  • By participating as a volunteer with the Brisbane North Community Legal Service (operated by the Northside Connect Inc) I will abide by the following principles:
    1. I acknowledge I have access to all NCI policies and the full Risk Management Guide.
    2. I will read the Brisbane North Community Legal Service Manual [including BNCLS specific policies] and Chapter 2 of the Risk Management Guide [RMG] provided to me.
    3. I will comply with all the practices, policies and directions of the Northside Connect Inc. and the Brisbane North Community Legal Service and not act outside of my job description or undertake any duties that have not been previously approved.
    4. I will properly record and maintain confidential all client information; instructions from and advice to a client and not make any disclosure except as required by law.
    5. I will not refer any client I see at BNCLS to either myself or any firm with which I am associated unless I have advised the client that I will do all work for him/her on a pro bono basis.
    6. I will advise BNCLS at the earliest possible time as to:
      1. any problems or incidents that occur while undertaking volunteer duties including in my dealings with any client, including safety issues, any possible conflict of interest that may arise and any matter which could give rise to a claim under BNCLS’ professional indemnity insurance;
      2. if I am unable to fulfil any of my obligations, including attending my rostered advice session;
      3. any change in my practising certificate or blue card status.
    7. I acknowledge that the BNCLS uses email for all communications. While generally focused on BNCLS matters sometimes it will communicate with me on other issues associated with it eg the Nundah Neighborhood Centre events such as the Nundah Festival. I consent to receiving such communications and acknowledge that I may at any stage withdraw the consent in this paragraph.

Northside Connect Inc (NCI) would like to acknowledge funding from the following sources: The Nundah Neighbourhood Centre Program receives funding from the Queensland State Government through Neighbourhood Centre Initiative Funding.  The Domestic Violence Program receives funding from the Queensland State Government through Women’s Safety and Violence Prevention Funding.   The Brisbane North Community Legal Service is funded by Federal and State Government, distributed by the Queensland State Government under the National Legal Assistance Partnership Agreement.NCI also receive additional assistance through one off grants from Federal, State and Local Government and Philanthropic sources and generous donations from community members, local businesses and other organisations.
